Illinois is missing far too many of its brightest minds.
Illinois fails to identify far too many of its brightest students – this is especially true for low-income students and students of color. This is due to the low percentage of schools that offer gifted programs and the subjective processes schools with gifted programs use to identify gifted students. In Illinois, no demographic group remains untouched – students of color, rural students, students at Title I schools, etc. – are all under-identified.
